I was hesitant to post such raw live versions of these songs but I have reached what I’ve dubbed my Why The Fuck Not phase. It comes directly after the What Have I Got To Lose phase, the If Not Now When phase, and conversely, the dreaded Why Bother … at 73 I’m Almost Dead phase. I lived through all of those and hopefully I’ll live through this one as well;-)-
Truth is, I’ve been trying to get decent video takes of these songs for while but whereas I could play them all the way through in front of people, I couldn’t get through a whole take while looking at myself on the iPad screen. I’d see myself do something weird and flub a chord or miss a lyric. A promoter in the area asked me to record a few songs this way as without live video he could not even consider booking me. Talking to my pal Mugs about this stuff, he suggested I take the cover off the iPad and turn it around “so as not to be lookin’ yer ugly mug … you forgot there are 2 cameras, you knucklehead” I think were his exact words. So within a day I had 6 decent takes. Fair warning; The song “They Ain’t Ever Comin’ Home” is a sad, angry commentary on gun violence in schools which some people may find disturbing. It was painful to write and it’s painful to sing but I think these words must be spoken and the story must be told.
All 6 are also posted on YouTube (@paulwarrenjacobs), as well as here.
And you know why? Why the fuck not, what have I got to lose, hell I’m old, 73, almost dead … if not now, when?

The below video is pretty much unedited though it was re-colorized and the audio compressed by Rich Brotman. This was when The Last Band on Earth had been at it since May 1985 and had just re-formed after 3 members left. The this was a really fun gig and worth the hour long watch. The set develops from beginning to end and is a great example of what it was like at The Bitter End when we played, which was about every 3 weeks for about 4 years in the late 80s. I love seeing and hearing my '68 Les Paul Gold Top and, not for nothin', seeing the hair on my head!!!! But really ... after watching this video, I understand why we kept going for so long. The quality of the songs, the vocals, the soloing, the energy, all just so high!!!
This was a damn good band!!! Enjoy this set from 1986!!
This video is dedicated to the memory of Bill Masoff who passed in 2023. RIP Bill
The personnel: Marz Marleau; Gtr, Vocals, Paul Warren Jacobs; Gtr, Vocals, Mugs Ross; Drums,
Bill Masoff (decd 2023); Bass, Pete Bonsangue; Keys
